CoVino

“Covino was established in 2013 after a trip in Paris, where I took inspiration from the concept of French bistro. Cesare Benelli, long-time owner of the restaurant Al Covo, shared the idea and involved me in the project, thus starting up the place.

The “formula” Covino at €40.00 includes an appetizer or first course, second course, dessert or cheese, to choose freely (drinks not included). The menu offers dishes composed by fish, meat, but also vegetarian options. We proudly use daily Slow-Food products with the aim of supporting local, small-scale producers that contribute with their high-quality and traditional supplies. Consequently, we seek high standards for our ingredients; for instance, our fishes, herbs, vegetables and spices come from the Rialto market and follow their seasonal trends.

We always update a wine-list of 100 different wines: they are all natural and linked to the terroir. The vineyards are placed in their typical production areas and the means of production are respectful of nature. We like to consider them “human” wines because they enhance the personality of producers and convey their philosophy.

My name is Andrea Lorenzon and I followed my father’s Mauro footsteps. In his restaurant La Mascareta, I had the chance to assimilate and share the passion for natural and easily digestible wines, especially for those which are expression of their territory and of the work of their strong artisans. After Experiences with Chef Giorgio in his Locanda Locatelli in London, with Gianni Bonaccorsi at Il Ridotto and a with the Alajmo Family, I decided to put all my efforts in a genuine and autenthic restuarant: CoVino.”

Cantine del Vino gia Schiavi

Legendary tavern with floor-to-ceiling bottles lining the walls, with wines by the glass & great snacks.

Dorsoduro has lots of atmospheric bacari, bars that serve cheap ciccheti (small snacks) all day, so a bacaro crawl is a great option for lunch. The best in the area is Cantina del Vino Già Schiavi (992 Fondamenta Nani), aka Cantinone or Al Bottegon, a wine shop-cum-bar. Crostini are topped with salt cod and wild garlic, pistachio cream or alioli with flower petals; local customers include dapper older gentlemen and jovial police officers.

“This is a must-visit Venetian destination. What looks like just a liquor store actually sells some of the most delicious food in the city. Cicchetti (basically different kinds of spreads on soft and bite-sized pieces of bread) is the speciality of this eatery and drinkery, with locals consistently popping in-and-out. With not much room to spare, there are no sit-down spots available. Instead, visitors either stand at the bar, grab some shelving space or eat on the sidewalk. This, to me, creates a unique and communal atmosphere. If you want to pair a drink with your food, the house wines are delicious and extremely affordable. Don’t miss out on this off-the-beaten-path gem! “

L’Alcova Restaurant

At L’Alcova Restaurant with its splendid panoramic terrace on the Canal Grande, you can enjoy traditional Venetian cuisine accompanied by a select wine list with labels from the various Italian wine regions.

The beautiful interiors look out onto the glorious water front and the Rialto Market right opposite.

This magical location has inspired our Chef’s approach: the absolute protagonist is a cuisine made of fresh ingredients and characterized by a strong “Back to Nature” concept. Local delicacies are enhanced in his menus through the daily attentive personal selection from the Rialto Market: a “Natural Flavours Philosophy” providing a fresh twist on the authentic Venetian cuisine.  His vision can be savored on his refined plates, characterized by rich tastes and great personality.

L’Alcova Restaurant is opened all year around, 7 days a week.
Lunch is offered from 12:00pm to 2:30pm, Afternoon snacks are available from 3:00pm-6:00pm and Dinner is served from 7:00pm to 10:00pm.

Before and after the Bar L’Incontro is the ideal location for aperitifs and after-dinner drinks.
Bar L’Incontro is opened all year around, 7 days a week from 12:00pm to midnight.

The “Rooftop terrace” is perfect for cocktails and special drinks at aperitif time. This exclusive bar offers a variety of drinks ranging from traditional Spritz, Bellini, fruit cocktail (from near Rialto market). The latter are an innovative and reflect the philosophy of the Chef’s cuisine: healthy and natural.

Gourmet Lagoon Tour

Imagine a local Venetian host, known for treasuring the gastronomic heritage of the lagoon, picking you up at your hotel and taking you to the Rialto market where you will discover and cherry-pick the best local ingredients. You will then embark in his beautiful boat, one of the few remaining example of a flat Venetian sailing ship.

You will spend the whole day cruising the lagoon while making various stops along the way to visit tiny private islands, home to delicious gastronomic treasures and have a tasting of ancient Venetian wines made around the lagoon. You will enjoy lunch on board where the talented host will cook for you a fantastic meal by using the freshest ingredients from the lagoon paired of course with a great selection of artisanal wines making you discover a different part of Venice.

The tour will continue by visiting Lazzaretto Nuovo, an island with evidence of humans inhabitants dating back to the Bronze age and renowned for its archaeological discoveries. Here you will see the “Teson Grande” the building used in the 1400’s for the quarantine and decontamination of goods carried from different ports suspected of the plague. Enjoy a glass of Prosecco Col Fondo during sunset and eventually arrive in a wonderful hidden trattoria that serves Venetian classics at their very best!
